Project Spotlight

Dainty Knotts Art

The Project

Owner of Dainty Knotts Art, Paige Knotts, is a lifelong artist specializing in watercolor portraits. It’s hard to put Paige into a box because her favorite genres range from books, pets, feminist icons, buildings, and TV show characters to abstract landscapes, bouquets, and anything else she happens to fancy at any given moment. She wanted to move away from the Etsy fees and offer her work on her own website.

Website Goals

Sell the Art

Of course, the main reason we were contacted was to help build an e-commerce website that was both beautiful and helped the client sell her art. She offers original watercolor paintings, as well as digital and print versions, plus she’s available for commission pieces.

Show Her Personality

This might seem like a no-brainer, but it was deeply important that even before anyone visiting the site read the content, they got an idea about who Paige is. She’s not afraid of fonts or colors and she’s a big fan of sarcasm. The perfect fit for us! Fonts used are nods to both her art and librarian backgrounds, while we added a little watercolor feel to the image overlays.

Talk Up the Workshops

People in Central Iowa can book Dainty Knotts Art for workshops. These are a cool way for work teams to hang out, they make great birthday parties or date nights, and they would be perfect for holiday parties. Paige helps make art accessible, so we needed to paint a word picture to help site visitors see how much fun they could have by booking a workshop.

Make Updates Easy

After running a successful Etsy page for quite a while, Paige knew learning how to add, edit, and delete new products on her own website would come with a learning curve. Making sure she had a training document to reference as she got her feet wet and that everything was clearly labeled on the backend was a must.

Working with WooCommerce

The e-commerce portion of the site uses WooCommerce, an open-source plugin for WordPress. It’s popular for its ease of use and flexibility. This allows users to purchase any original art Paige has available and order commission pieces.

Content is Key

As always, SEO was on our mind but so was making the content light and welcoming. Writing content that introduced keywords while staying fun and funky was a challenge we welcomed.
