Monroe Physical Therapy

The Project 

Monroe Physical Therapy addresses chronic pain, musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, geriatric conditions, and vestibular disorders. So the challenge was to design and write content for a website that someone who isn’t familiar with the language of physical therapy could easily understand and navigate.

Website Goals

Introduce Rachael Gumm

The owner and only physical therapist practicing at the clinic, Rachael Gumm, has over 15 years of experience. She opened her own clinic after years of working in larger medical settings and wanted to be sure that folks who worked with her before would immediately know they were in the right place. That’s why we introduce her right away on the homepage, talk a bit more about her at the bottom of that page, and have a full page dedicated to her background in physical therapy.

Make Finding Treatment Easy

While Rachael often works with older adults, she also treats teens and adults. Making it clear who she treats and what she treats was important. The homepage clearly lays out the conditions she can help address and if a visitor doesn’t want to scroll down a bit on that page, the “What I Treat” in the main menu is ready to answer their questions right away!

Keep Older Folks in Mind

While older adults aren’t Rachael’s only clients, they make up a large portion. A large part of ensuring that the website was easy on the eyes was making the “white” background of the website a pale shade of pink. Of course, this does not change the fact that our sites take color contrast into consideration at all times. It simply made the design a little softer.

Technical Stuff

Differentiate from Other PT Clinics

Many physical therapy clinic websites can feel too clinical, ironically. It was important for Rachael that her website felt more bold without going overboard (she is practicing in rural Iowa, after all). Taking warmer colors from her logo and feeling free to have a bit more fun with a clinic’s website was the move.

Content Clarity

Balance was a big thing here. I mean, of course it was with a physical therapy site. But balancing scientific language with terms the average person would understand was big. This was accomplished by explaining specific terms and how physical therapy could help visitors find relief through one-on-one physical therapy sessions.
